Sometimes, in amongst the websites and boardgames, it’s easy to forget to mention the smaller jobs! And yet the results from a couple of hours of Bek’s time, with her lovely eye for beauty and clarity, can produce a design that has superb ongoing results. Case in point, her creation of a logo for Montessori at South End:

There’s a suggestion of a sunrise and a real sense of Aotearoa in the logo, and as a whole it’s strong and clear.

One of the triumphs has been that it works across a range of colours:

The Montessori school was originally in Masterton, but after their lease there ended they needed to find new premises. About three years ago, they moved in with South End School in Carterton. The merging has had a few bumpy moments, but overall it’s worked very well for both the mainstream and the Montessori classes, with the school becoming stronger and better for it. Bek’s design has given Montessori both a logo that represents their individuality and creativity, while maintaining their role as a part of South End.

Given that Montessori kids also tend to be fairly idiosyncratic, it’s been fun watching them choose their own unique colourways, and so it’s become the uniform you have when you’re not having a uniform! It gives the kids the chance to be part of a team, especially when they’re representing the school at something like a chess tournament:

Or just to have another option for something to wear in class:

And one of the best elements of South End is seeing the kids work together to achieve success. Here are a couple of shots from the recent Carterton Chess tournament, where they won both the Junior and Senior divisions (and will head to the national tournament at the end of September):
